“Gender in Focus” is part of a nationwide funding program for the consideration of gender aspects in science and university medicine.
The funds will be used for professional networking and project preparation, including participation in the EIBA conference and a thematically relevant workshop, as well as for the preparation of a publication related to the project context.
The planned research project investigates how the composition of editorial teams (including gender and regional origin) shapes the choice of topics, the range of perspectives, and fairness in scientific journals. In preparation, freely accessible metadata from numerous specialist journals will be systematically collected, quality assured, and processed into comparable indicators. Building on this, the next step will be to empirically test correlations between diversity in editorial offices, thematic breadth, and characteristics of the review process.
