On February 10, 2026, the Chair of Public Economics took part in the University of Jena’s Open Campus – Information Day for Economics and Law. The event gave high school students the opportunity to learn more about studying economics or law and to explore future career options.
In her lecture, “Aging and Pensions: What Lies Ahead for Society?” Prof. Dr. Silke Übelmesser discussed how an aging population is putting increasing pressure on public pension systems. She explained why reforms are necessary and why they are often unpopular. Through a short “information experiment,” participants saw how a better understanding of economic relationships can influence reform preferences.
The Open Campus also offered information stands, workshops, and the chance to talk to students and faculty members.
