From 21.07. to 02.08.2019 the 13th Summer School of the Graduate College "The Economics of Innovative Change" took place under the direction of Prof. Dr. Uwe Cantner. This year's main topic "Innovation in a digitalized world" brought together 20 international doctoral students in economics. The Opening Lecture by Prof. Dr. Irene Bertschek from the Center for European Economic Research on the topic "The Economics of Digitalization" in the Senate Hall of the University's main building put the participants and interested guests in the mood for the coming days. The intensive course program consisted of a mixture of theoretical and methodical courses. Internationally renowned scientists held courses on topics such as "Machine Learning", "Innovation in Transition Economies", "Economics of Digitalization", "Microeconometrics" and "Applied Econometrics". Furthermore, there were opportunities to present their own research and discuss it with the lecturers.
In addition to the intensive thematic work during the day, there were many opportunities for social exchange outside the seminar room – for example during joint barbecue evenings and an excursion to Weimar including a guided tour through the city.
Thus it was little surprising on the conclusion meeting in the botanical garden many exhausted and nevertheless happy faces to see, when Professor Dr. Uwe Cantner distributed the participant certificates. We are happy to have given these young scientists new impulses for their future work.
