Abstract

The main subject of this research project is to analyze the impact of a new technology on the economy. The focus is put on the medical sector. In specific, the very recent novelties in percutaneous implantation of aortic stent-valve protheses will be investigated in order to identify drivers and inhibitors of the innovation process. Aspects of innovation and risk management will be discussed as well as selected issues of technology transfer. The consequences for society and economy such as the induced structural change in demography and health care may ask for possible policy implications. This interdisciplinary approach consists of three main disciplines: a medical, a management and an economic perspective, which will contribute to an all-embracing theoretical and empirical study, in order to shed some light on the specificities of the innovation process in a highly regulated health care market.
